GREETINGS FROM YOUR PRESIDENT...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I know the membership will be glad to hear that our research project completed last year will be published in the Spring CPCU Journal. It is a great honor for the Chapter to be published two years in a row. A special thank you to the committee members who assisted in completing the project.

We also are lucky to have the editor of the CPCU Journal, Barry D. Smith, be our speaker at the January meeting. I look forward to seeing you all there.

January Meeting...

The January meeting of the Iowa Chapter wjll be held at the University Park Holiday Inn on Thursday, January 15, 11:00 A.M. to 12:15 P.M. Our featured speaker will be Barry D. Smith, CPCU, CPCU, CLU, FLMI, Editor of the "CPCU Journal" and Professor in the Department of Finance, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mr. Smith's topic for our meeting is "Diversity Trends in the Industry." Lunch will follow Mr. Smith's talk.

Workplace Solutions: Managing EPL Exposures

This educational program is targeted to insurance, legal and human resource professionals, business owners, etc. The program will consist of two panels, one dealing with identi~ing EPL exposures and another panel dealing with finding EPL solutions.

We encourage all Chapter members to attend and to encourage others you work with, or who may have dealings in the area, to attend. Look forward to seeing everyone January 22!

Still Searching for Volunteers...

The December Chaptergram informed you that the Candidate Recruitrnent and Development Committee will have a booth at the CPCU testing site in the Olmsted Center at Drake University during the January, 1998 CPCU exams. Information regarding the CPCU designation, and also a bag of popcorn, will be provided to Drake University business students and the CPCU candidates as they leave their exams.

Volunteers are needed to staff the booth on each of the following days:

Good Works Projects...

The canned goods and cash donations from the December Living History Farms meeting were delivered to the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry during Christmas week by Joanie Florer and Nancy Green. The donations were welcomed by the Food Pantry; the donations from the CPCU Chapter will feed a large family for a week. The Iowa CPCU Chapter supplemented the individual member donations with an additional $100 cash donation.

The Iowa CPCU Chapter pursues several Good Works projects every year. Please contact Joanie Florer at Farmland (245-8871) or Nancy Green at EMC (280-2850) with ideas for any new Good Works projects.

Public Relations Award Submission - Can You Help?...

Publishing: Have you recently had an article published in a trade journal, industry newsletter, magazine or newspaper? Written a letter to the editor, using your CPCU designation in the signature block?

Speaking: Do you ever present speeches to non-insurance business professional groups (trade groups or associations, etc.) civic organizations, elementary, high school or college students?

If you answered "Yes" to any of these, we would like to hear from you. Please contact Dan Crew, PR Chairperson, to confirm the details for inclusion in our Public Relations Award Submission to the National CPCU Society in Malvern, PA.
