A Message
From Your President...Greetings! As this CPCU year comes to a close, I would like to thank all the members that have worked so hard to make this year successful. I would especially like to thank the board, officers and committee chairs for their dedication and commitment. The chapter has accomplished many goals. I know the members will benefit from these accomplishments. I have listed some of the highlights below to remind us of our successes. I do think that we have

- Encouraged New Designees with receptions
- Awarded 2 Drake Scholarships
- Published an excellent Membership Directory
- Supported students taking CPCU tests at Drake
- Supported the Blank Fire Safety House
- Revisited Flood of '93 at the Des Moines Water Works
- Learned more about the grass roots efforts at the State Capitol
- Celebrated Christmas at Living History Farms
- Learned about Personal Resilience
- Sponsored a CPCU booth at the Independent Insurance Agents of IA Annual Meeting
- Completed successful education and public relations programs
I hope to see everyone at our upcoming golf outing on May 20. We need to celebrate all these successes.

May Meeting - Installation of Officers and Golf Outing...
The May meeting of the Iowa Chapter will be held Wednesday, May 20, at Willow Creek Golf Club, 63rd & Army Post Road. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m., followed by installation of officers at noon. Our guest speaker will be Jane Riggins, RN/BSN, Specialist in Communicable Diseases and Infection Control, of the Polk County Health Department. She will be discussing the recent outbreak of Hepatitis A, and questions are encouraged. Golf tee times will begin at 1:00 p.m. and hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be available at the club house following golf.
Lunch - $15.00 Golf- 18 holes + 1/2 cart = $31.75 9 holes + 1/2 cart = $22.00

Four Inducted into the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame...
"Celebrating Leaders in a Global Marketplace" was the theme of the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame Banquet held Thursday, April 23, at the Iowa State Historical Building. The following distinguished individuals were inducted into the Hall of Fame:

William E. Timmons - Iowa Insurance Commissioner (1956-1967) & General Counsel, Iowa Insurance Institute

CPCU Fire Safety School...
Thank you for the support of the CPCU Fire Safety School during past years. The Fire Safety House is a small version of a home, and it provides a realistic setting for fire safety education. As CPCU volunteers, we help with tasks assigned by the Fire Department--helping children climb down the ladder, prompting children to dial 911, etc. We plan to assist the West Des Moines Fire Department while visiting third-grade elementary school classes again this Spring, and volunteers are needed.
