Rick Bruess 

Rick Breuss has worked for the Principal Financial Group for a little more than 12 years and is currently a Senior Investigator & Compliance Consultant with the Corporate Compliance and Special Investigation Unit. This three-person team (with Teresa Hansen and Bette Brown) has responsibility for fraud investigations and projects as well as corporate-wide compliance on anti-fraud initiatives (e.g. anti-money laundering).

Rick is the lead person for:
• Compilation of various data and information for filing annual anti-fraud reports required by certain states.
• Coordination of the enhancements to Principal’s internal system for compliance with the USA PATRIOT Act’s “Customer Identification Program”.
• Corporate-wide efforts on Identity Theft. Including today, Rick has made 43 in-house and external training presentations on ID-Theft. 

Rick also has extensive background in residential mortgage lending, quality control, and compliance. 

He has a B.S. degree in business administration & economics, is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Institute of Internal Auditors, and is currently studying for his Certified Fraud Examiner designation.

James R. Marks, CAE, CPCU, AIM  

Jim Marks is the Executive Vice President of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society in Malvern, PA, where he directs a staff of 35 professionals.

The organization serves almost 27,000 members in 154 chapters and 9,000 Canadian and other international affiliate members worldwide. Jim also serves as an ex-officio member of the Society’s Board of Governors, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (AICPCU).

Mr. Marks joined the Society staff in 1986 and later became a Senior Vice President of the Communications and Marketing Department. He was elected chief staff officer in 1995. 

He earned the Associate in Management designation in 1989, his CPCU designation in 1993, and Certified Association Executive in 1999. 

Jim is a Loman Club member and secretary of the CPCU-Harry J. Loman Foundation. He is the author of Sharing the Risk: How the Nation’s Homes, Autos and Businesses Are Insured.

Marks began his insurance career at the A.M. Best Company and held various positions at the Insurance Information Institute in New York and Atlanta.

William E. Bailey, CPCU, JD  

William E. (“Bill”) Bailey is a Boston attorney specializing in insurance and financial services issues, communications and litigation. He is Special Counsel to the Insurance Information Institute, the New York based education and information national trade association of the property-casualty insurance industry, a post he has held since 1986.

He was the Director of the Hurricane Insurance Information Center in Miami for 18 months following Hurricane Andrew in August, 1992. In 1999, Bill served as the Director of the Tornado Insurance Information Center following the Oklahoma City Tornado. Most recently, Bill was appointed Co-Director of the Disaster Insurance Information Center in New York City following the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks on September 11, 2001. On Sunday August 3, 2002, Bill marked his ninth anniversary as host of the live, syndicated talk radio program “It’s Your Money! (What are you going to do with it?)”, which airs live, nationally every Sunday from noon to 2:00 P.M. (E.T.) on the National Radio Network.

A graduate of Harvard College (B.A. 1962), Harvard Law School (J.D. 1968) and the Union Graduate School and University (Ph.D. 1996), Bill also received his CPCU designation in 1993. Bill is also President of the National Consumer Education Foundation.
